Jackson County Leaders Broke Ground on One of Three New FEMA 361 Disaster Shelters.

Jackson County leaders broke ground today, July 12th, at the site of one of three new FEMA 361 disaster shelters.  The 10,000 square foot building will be complete in late spring 2012.  One is located in St. Martin; this one is in Vancleave, and the third one is in East Central.  American Red Cross of Mississippi State Director of Public Affairs Paige Roberts spoke at the shelter groundbreaking. American Red Cross Contributes $10 Million to Assist Japan

 WASHINGTON, Tuesday, March 15, 2011 — The American Red Cross today announced an initial contribution of $10 million to the Japanese Red Cross Society to assist in its ongoing efforts to provide medical care and relief assistance to the people of Japan following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. “We are grateful for the American public’s generosity and compassion following what has been declared one of the most devastating earthquakes in history,” said David Meltzer, senior vice president of international services with the American Red Cross. “The American Red Cross is in a unique position to help channel that support to our partner in Japan that is playing a critical humanitarian role and comforting the survivors.” [Read More]

Save-A-Life Saturday

The South Mississippi Chapter will offer free CPR and first aid training on Saturday, March 19, as part of Gabrielle Giffords Honorary Save-a-Life Saturday. Red Cross chapters will hold classes at more than 100 locations across the country to honor Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and all those involved in the Tucson tragedy. [Read More]
